We stand in the traditional stream of Anabaptist Christian thought and practice. “Anabaptist” (or “rebaptizer”) refers to voluntary choice of baptism by those old enough to understand the process of spiritual conversion. God enables those who desire it to turn away from disobedience, to turn toward Him to receive a responsive “heart of flesh” in place of a cold “heart of stone”. This gift of a changed heart comes at the price of death of the God-Man, Christ Jesus, who carried the weight of our rebellion against God. The resurrection of Christ guarantees that God’s power is sufficient to transform us into a people who love to obey God, even in such radical ways as suggested by the Sermon on the Mount. We love God heart, soul, mind, and strength, and in doing so we find rich life and the wholeness of Shalom.
